Life on Mars

NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander has recently landed and started taking photos of the Martian landscape. One of the mission goals is the search for life on Mars.

Mars is a cold desert planet with no liquid water on its surface. But in the Martian arctic, water ice lurks just below ground level.

Discoveries made by the Mars Odyssey Orbiter in 2002 show large amounts of subsurface water ice in the northern arctic plain.

Using a robotic arm to gather samples of soil, the lander seeks to find evidence that there was at one time in the history of Mars, some form of life. But when we look at this next photo, taken of the surrounding landscape, we see the evidence may be hiding in plain sight.

The photograph clearly shows some fully grown Ha Gow roaming the Martian surface. Their dumpling like skin clearly protecting them from the extremes of the Martian climate. They have an uncanny resemblance to their Terran cousins, except that they are lacking some chili sauce to bathe in.

When will there be a manned expedition to Mars? We do not know, but on that day, we look forward to opening a Martian addition to the Church of Dim Sum. On the next Mars Lander, we want to see the robotic arm equipped with chopsticks. Followers are eager to go, and we are starting a waiting list for those who would go to do missionary work to the Martians, when we find them.

The photo can be explained easily. The University of Arkansas has come up with a theory, that On Mars, methane producing microorganisms are creating methane gas which leaks out from the ground into the atmosphere.

The methane bubbles through pools of liquids which resemble a batter made with rice flour and water. Sometimes the bubbles fill with the gas as the daytime heat cooks them into shapes that resemble Ha Gow.

It is easy to mistake this for giant Ha Gow, like we have on earth. So there you have it.
