Point Of Adoration

In various religions, there is the concept of a point of adoration. This is a place on the globe that the worshipers face when praying. It is considered the most holy spot on the planet. For example, in Islam, the believers face Mecca, and in Scientology, the believers turn towards Tom Cruz.

In the Church of Dim Sum, one should face Hong Kong, since that is really the capital of Dim Sum. This is all very well and good for those of us living outside of Hong Kong, but it poses a problem for residents of Hong Kong. I mean, which direction should one face? It is enough to drive the average resident cross eyed.

To solve this problem, all tables in Chinese Dim Sum restaurants in Hong Kong were made round. It started out originally so that the many believers did not have to worry which way to sit at the table. Over the years, having round tables in Dim Sum restaurants has grown to become the standard, and has spread to restaurants around the globe.

Furthermore, it was unclear which direction to point the holy chilly sauce, or which direction to point the various sauces. This was solved by making the bowls round, and the addition of a lazy suzan in the center of the table allowed things to be rotated so that all the believers could be serviced.

So there you have it...
