| Flu Season |
It is late December and the temperature outside is -14 Celsius. Everywhere I go I see people sniffling and coughing with some cold or flu. It is the season for this sort of thing, but it does not have to be. People try all sorts of medications and remedies, including the flu shot. More people get sick from the flu shot than it protects. I know from first hand experience to allow a few days to recover from receiving the flu shot each year. Some people swear by vitamins and supplements, but there is something even better.
What am I talking about? Why Dim Sum of course! Previously we wrote about the healing power of these holy morsels. Well it does not end there. If you regularly worship in the temple of your favorite Dim Sum restaurant, then you will be granted the blessing of good health, including a resistance to colds and flu. Yes - you heard it here. In our glorious religion, we even have a cure (or prevention) to the common cold. We have not got to any major miracles yet, but it is still early, and the restaurants are still open. So if you want to be free of illness this season, you should make a regular pilgrimage to the temple of celestial Ha Gow and worship there until you are too full to get up from the table. Then will you receive the bounteous gifts bestowed upon you. Go in peace... |

It started out with a small cough and a headache. I thought it might be a bug at most, so I kept pushing ahead and going to work. If I had realized, a Ha Gow could have fixed things for me.
Then, I woke up on Wednesday morning and literally couldn't get out of bed. It was too hard. I hurt all over. My head throbbed, my back ached. I felt miserable. Dim Sum was the last thing on my mind.
I told my husband how awful I felt and he felt my forehead. He said I definitely had a fever and was nice enough to order some Dim Sum for me.
He went out and returned with the steamed dumplings and it did the trick for me.
I know I'm lucky, because the flu can turn into something worse. I'm very lucky that I work at a place that lets people call in sick without giving them a hard time. And I'm very lucky to have such a patient husband, who brings me Dim Sum.
